A round table discussion was held at Andijan State Medical Institute on the topic: "The rights of persons with disabilities — are the rights and freedoms that every person with a disability must possess without any restrictions."
The event was attended by the institute's administration, professors, tutors, responsible staff, students, as well as youth with disabilities.
During the event, speeches were delivered by D. Tadjibaeva, Chief Specialist of the National Social Protection Agency of Andijan Region, and G. Kholmatova, First Vice-Rector for Youth Affairs and Spiritual-Educational Work of the institute. They addressed issues concerning the ensuring of rights and freedoms for persons with disabilities, the creation of equal opportunities for them, and the development of inclusive educational environment.
During the round table, the opinions and needs of students with disabilities were also heard, and proposals were put forward regarding the creation of necessary conditions for their education and active participation in public life.
🔹 In particular, the following proposals were advanced:
— studying the individual educational needs of students with disabilities;
— establishing a "One-stop shop" mechanism for consultation and assistance;
— improving the qualifications of professors, instructors, and tutors in the field of inclusive education;
— organizing a "Peer-to-Peer" volunteer movement;
— increasing the inclusivity of information and e-learning resources;
— organizing special training sessions for future doctors on effective communication with patients with disabilities and forming a culture of providing medical services to them.
At the conclusive part of the event, the "Peer-to-Peer" volunteer movement was established at the institute. Furthermore, tasks that need to be implemented to ensure an environment of equal opportunities, respect, and barrier-free education for every student were defined.
