The more we study the life activity of the great scholar Abu Rayhan Beruni, who was an astronomer, geographer, mineralogist, ethnographer, historian, and poet, the more we learn. For this reason, a roundtable discussion on the life and work of our ancestor was held at Andijan State Medical Institute. B. Mamatov, dean of the Faculty of General Medicine, deputy dean M. Olmasov, professors, teachers and tutors participated in the event.
Professors and teachers told the students about Beruni’s youth and his first scientific research. Indeed, analyzing the results that he measured in his youth, Beruni says that they were quite reliable. In his youth, he was engaged in observing solar eclipses. At the age of 22, Beruni made the first globe in Central Asia. He studied many books left by his ancestors, and created the first major work that has come down to us on the annual calculations of different peoples – “Osorul bakiya” (“Memories left by ancient peoples”). It fully describes all the periods, holidays and calendars of the Greeks, Romans, Persians, Sogdians, Khorezmians and many other tribes and peoples, as well as the cultural and literary history of various countries of the East. In this work, Beruni proved himself not only as a philologist, but also as a linguist, a connoisseur of Arabic, Greek, Persian, Syriac and other languages and literature.
The students, who enjoyed the discussions, also expressed their opinion about the life and work of our ancestor.
