In October 1955 Andijan State Medical Institute was founded. Departments were consistently created. In September 1957, the Department of Pathological Physiology was opened and began its activities. The leadership of the department was entrusted to Professor R.I. Pulatov, who headed the department from 1957 to 1959. From 1959 to 1960, the department was headed by associate professor I.Ya. Novorasova.
Since September 1961, the department was headed by Professor N.I. Pasternak, who, along with the organization of educational, methodological, research and ideological educational work, created the technical and economic base of the department, thanks to which the department took its place among the leading ones in the university.
Under the guidance of Professor N.I. Pasternak the staff of the department actively participated with its scientific reports and lectures at various conferences, congresses and symposiums, both within the republic and abroad. An example of this is the participation of M.M. Jalilov and Kh.H. Shermatov at the II Congress of Pathophysiologists in Tashkent in 1976. Kh. Kh. Shermatova participated at the III Congress of Pathophysiologists (Chisinau 1989) and at the International Congress of Pathophysiologists (Moscow 1991).
From 1974 to 1985, the department was headed by Associate Professor M. M. Jalilov. During this period, assistants R.T.Tojiboev, A.S.Shupik, A.Akbarov, S.Obidova, T.Sultonova, T.Bakirova, Z.Rakhimov actively carried out educational, methodological and scientific research work in the department.
Since 1985, the department was headed by Associate Professor Kh.Kh. Shermatov, who continued the work started by Professor N.I. Pasternak: “Studying the pathophysiological features of the processes of damage, adaptation when exposed to homotissue antigens of blood vessels and the stomach and finding ways to correct them.”
On this problem, Associate Professor Kh.Kh. Shermatov defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Experimental modeling and study of the mechanisms of autoimmune vascular damage.”

Since 2000, the educational, methodological, research and ideological work of the department has been carried out according to the new exemplary program, according to which one of the first among medical and biological departments began to introduce new methods for comprehensive lecture delivery and practical training, remaining one of the leading disciplines. The department was strengthened by active young specialists (Associate Professor: K. Chartakov, Senior Lecturer M. Madumarova).
Since 2008, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences Sh.Kh.Khamrokulov. Since 2014, the department together with pathological anatomy was called “Pathological Anatomy and Pathological Physiology”. Since 2016, the department was named “The department of Normal and Pathological Physiology”. Since 2019, on September 3, the department was separated and is now called the Department of Pathological Physiology. The head of the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences Sh.Kh.Khamrokulov.
Academician A.D. Ado, Professor A.I. Ayvazin and Professor G.G. Avtandilov and others took an active part in the formation of the department and in the organization of the research direction. Today, young assistants such as O.K.Djalolova, N.L.Tojiboeva, M.O. Khujakov, N.A. Tillaboev work at the department.
Currently Assistant D.S. Kosimova is successfully working on her Ph.D. dissertation.
