He’d been a professor of the department from 2005 to 2011, from 2021 to the present he has been working as the head of the department at the Department of Surgical Diseases.

During this period, Akramjon Kodiralievich Botirov trained and educated more than 6 scientists, 3 of his students received the academic title of Doctor of Philosophy ( PhD ). At present, he continues his scientific work and teaches students.

During his career, he completed an internship at the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Institute in the field of surgical diseases and gave many lectures to students. He is the author of more than 300 scientific papers, including 4 monographs, 4 methodological recommendations, 2 textbooks, 2 teaching aids, more than 12 patents for inventions and journal articles.

The creation of the Department of Surgical Diseases at the Institute is directly connected with the name of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist, the famous surgeon Alexander Yakovlevich Yasnogorodsky (1956). Yasnogorodsky was invited to establish a Department of Surgery in the regional hospital and to develop the surgery scientifically and practically. Together with the establishment of the Department of Surgery, he gathered talented students around him and founded the Andijan School of Surgery.
Professor Ibadov I.Yu., associate professors Alimov T.Yu., Dzhakhongirov M.Kh., Udachina N.A., Grigoryans S.A., Grigoryan N.A., Ishonkhodjaev U.A., Khakimov S.P., Zakhidov M.A., as well as many other practicing surgeons of this department contributed to the scientific and practical development of surgery with their activities.

After Yasnogorodsky’s death, professor I.Yu. Ibadov headed the department during 1969-1981. Later, the department moved to the III-Surgical Department of the ASMI clinic and was renamed as the “Hospital Surgery” department.
During his career, he showed himself as a skilled surgeon, a hard-working scientist, a deeply knowledgeable clinician, and a talented pedagogue who was able to awaken the feelings of humanity and sympathy in the hearts of his students.

In 1981, Professor R.M. Nurmukhammedov was appointed as head of the department. Professor R.M. Nurmukhammedov, working as the head of the department, had a completely different methodological approach to the educational process. The staff of the department gathered around the famous scientist. A great path opened for scientific research of the department staff. The most complex types of operations were introduced into practice. Among the first in the Fergana Valley, a single endoscopy center (1981), a center for the use of laser beams (1988), and an endosurgery center were opened at the base of the department.
In 1988-1992, the department was headed by Professor R. Yu. Omirov. The scientific activity of Professor R. Yu. Omirov was extensive and covered many surgical problems. His more than 400 scientific articles, monographs and methodological manuals examined such topical issues as surgical treatment of goiter, cholelithiasis, acceleration of fracture healing, and, in recent years, immunological interpretation of some diseases. Effective conduct of scientific research by the department staff occupies the main place in the professor’s work. During the scientist’s activity, 3 doctoral and more than 30 candidate dissertations were defended. R.Yu.Omirov is not only an experienced scientist, but also an outstanding surgeon and a well-educated clinician. Countless people will forever be grateful that his pure heart and sensitive hand healed them. The titles of “Excellent Healthcare Worker” and “Honored Doctor of Uzbekistan” confirm our opinion.
From 1993 to 2013 , Professor F.N. Nishonov worked as the head of the department. During his career, he trained many students and created an excellent opportunity for the development of young scientists. Under the supervision of Professor F.N. Nishonov, dozens of candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended in the republic and at prestigious universities of the Russian Federation. He created the “School of Professor F.N. Nishonov”. His students currently work in all regions of our republic. During his work at the department, Professor F.N. Nishonov paid serious attention to the educational process and its development along with research work. Among the members of the student scientific society organized at the department, an honorable place was taken by the participants of the Republican Olympiad in Sciences, among them the scholarship holders named after the “President” of the Republic of Uzbekistan and “Ibn Sina”.

In 2013-2017, Associate Professor N.E. Bozorov, a student of Professor F.N. Nishonov, was appointed head of the department . During his career, he trained many students and created an excellent opportunity for the development of young scientists.
Since 2021, the head of the department is Botirov Akrom Kodiralievich.
Since 2023, the name of the department was renamed as a “Department of Surgical Diseases”.
