Today, on April 23, the regular meeting of the Scientific Council has been held in Andijan State Medical Institute. The meeting was attended by the Institute’s rector, M. Madazimov, vice-rectors and members of the Council.
The rector of the Institute opened the meeting by announcing the agenda. First, in traditional fashion, persons who earned academic titles and degrees as well as winners of national and international competitions were recognized and awarded.
Following this, discussions were held regarding the implementation of the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, decrees and decisions of the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and relevant documents of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
The next part of the meeting focused on agenda items. The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs B. Abdullajonov provided information on “The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s visit to Andijan region – the tasks assigned to the Institute and plans for their implementation.”
For reference, during the President’s visit to the region on April 15–16 this year, he emphasized that all necessary opportunities exist to create “Andijan brand” in medicine. As part of this initiative, last year a 650-bed clinic was transferred to the balance of Andijan State Medical Institute and 180 billion soums were allocated for its renovation and equipment. This will allow 11,000 students to study and practice at the same time. Support was also given to initiatives such as launching a two-stage medical personnel assessment system at the Institute’s Medical Simulation Center and building of Traumatological, Pediatric, Surgical and Gynecological departments near the clinic to form a medical cluster. An additional 100 billion soums were approved for this purpose. Medical staff in case of passing simulation center assessments will receive a 100% salary bonus.
Moreover, considering that 2,000 students from Namangan province currently commute to study in Andijan, the President proposed turning theMedical Faculty of Namangan State University into a branch of Andijan Medical Institute with the goal of later establishing it as an independent higher education institution and granting university status to Andijan Medical Institute. The number of international students at the Institute is also growing year by year, currently exceeding 1,000. Taking this into account, the President noted that the region could increase medical education exports to over $20 million annually through students coming from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China and India. Responsible persons were instructed to submit proposals to introduce a “student visa” for foreign students studying in Uzbekistan within a month.
Reports were heard from R. Djurayev, head of the department for handling appeals from individuals and legal entities and for monitoring and control, on discipline of execution at the Instituteas well as from Vice-Rector for Innovation and Research K. Salohiddinov on the Institute’s preparations for a scientific-practical conference.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the rector gave important instructions regarding the development of science, medical education, student practice, graduate employment, encouraging students to obtain foreign language certificates, involving international specialists in teaching, establishing systems for faculty and student exchanges as well as the enhancing scientific potential.
