The Department of Ophthalmology of the Andijan State Medical Institute was founded in 1959 at the regional clinical hospital.
From 1960 to 1976, the department was headed by a member of the board of the Scientific Society of Ophthalmologists of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Honored Doctor of the Republic, “Veteran of Labor”, winner of the Medal of Glory Khadzhimukhammedov Khamidulla Koraboevich. During his activity, he improved and established anti-glaucomatous examination at the department. Has 32 published scientific articles. At this time, he also held the position of chief ophthalmologist of the Andijan region.
The department was also headed from 1978 to 1996 by Honored Doctor of Health, Honored Doctor of the Republic, Honorary Doctor of 1984 Karima Kadyrovna Kadyrova, from 1984 to 1991 by Alisher Rakhimovich Khudaiberdiev, in 1991-1994 by Abdukhalikov Khabibulla Dushaboevich.
During these periods, the department was carried out by associate professor Batkaeva Nailya Khamidovna, assistant Narbinskaya Bella Veniaminovna, Khamidova Matlyuba Khamidovna, assistants Abdukhalikov Khabibullo Dushaboevich, Kasimov Matlyuba Kasimovna, Jaloldinov Sirodzhiddin Dzhaloldinovich, Tukhtaboev Isroel Tuychievich, Mirzaeva Roza Zariddinovna, Akhmadzhonova Aziza Zakirovna, as well as Kasimov Akhmadzhon Kamoliddinovich, Mukhamedova Khikoyat Mirzabekovna.
From 1994 to the present, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A.F. Ikramov. Under the leadership of Ikramov, 15 masters theses have been defended.
