The department was founded in 1955 as the “Pedagogy and Psychology” department, and initially consisted of four people. Adolf Moiseevich Schneitzer was appointed the first head of the department.

The purpose of the department is to improve oral and written literacy of students in foreign languages and to solve the problems of formation of translation in the field of medicine. Based on the main content, scientific research is being conducted in the following areas:

1. Problems of translation theory
2. Methodology of teaching foreign languages

In 1958 Associate Professor M.G.Nordkin was appointed as the head of the department.
In 1990-2000 M.S.Obidova was appointed the head of the department.
In 2000-2002 E.A.Ablayev was appointed the head of the department.
In 2002-2012 L.U.Khodjayeva worked as the head of the department.
In 2012-2022 L.S.Khudayberdieva worked as the head of the department.

Over the years, the ranks of teachers of the department have been expanded including S.S.Manabayeva, L.V. Kim, G. Yu. Asanova, L.S. Hudayberdieva, D.T.Arziyeva, F.I. Abdulkhairova, B.R.Saidkhanova, Z.R.Kholmirzaeva, I.A.Matveyeva, D.N.Igamova, N.A.Mamatova, Yu.O.Ergasheva, M.Kh.Budikova, A.Kh.Abdullaev.
By 2019, the department was separated as “The Department of Foreign Languages”.
Among the young teachers, O.S.Pulatova, G.O.Yakhshiboyeva, D.I.Israilova, Sh.Nomonov, Kh.Y.Khusanov, A.Kh.Abdullayev, N.X.Kayumova, G.D.Makhmudova, G.G’ofurova, Kh.Abdullaeva, K.Abdurashidova use non-traditional methods in their classes. At the same time, they gained pedagogical experience from their older colleagues and established the “Master-Apprentice” school, perfecting their professional skills.
Today, 15 pedagogic employees are working in the department, 4 of them are employees with scientific degrees.
