On cold winter days, the human body needs natural vitamins. In addition, canned goods made of various fruits and vegetables are usually at the New Year’s table. It’s a pleasure for all of us. But do their quality meet the demand? If canned goods are of poor quality, there are cases of food poisoning.
Botulism is a severe type of food poisoning that sometimes ends in death and is caused by consuming home-made tomatoes, cucumbers and other canned goods.
Food poisoning is manifested by the appearance of symptoms of nervousness, gastrointestinal tract disorders and general poisoning.
Fatigue, nausea, vomiting and dry mouth, blurred vision, double vision, drooping eyelids, hoarseness are signs of botulism.
Botulism venom damages nerve fibers in the brain. As a result, paralysis of the motor muscles of the throat and face occurs, the nerve fibers of the heart are damaged.

The latent period of the disease lasts from 18-24 hours to 2-3 days, sometimes 8-10 days. The disease lasts for 2 or 3 weeks in mild cases and 2-3 months in severe cases.
To avoid botulism, care should be taken with home-made canned goods and pickles. It is also important not to buy canned goods from the streets in unmarked places, or to pay attention to the label, expiration date of any food purchased.
Before opening any canned product, it is necessary to check the clarity of its water without shaking, to make sure that the lid is not lifted. It is also important to pay attention to the fact that the product is not crushed, the smell.

If symptoms of botulism are observed, consult a physician immediately. Remember that treatment at home can lead to serious complications!
